Training for networks
For networks we offer tailored training built on areas of improvement identified through the use of Dosti’s Axis of Influence. To begin, we run a 2-3 hour session for a network, in which we introduce the Axis of Influence and consider the capacity of the network to influence partnerships. We then tailor any number of follow up workshops, or activities in network meetings over a period of time (this could be years) to assist the network to become more influential.

Follow up workshops vary according to the network using the tool, but include activities to help network members to:
  • Know why they want to influence – making connections and developing collective thinking
  • Become willing to have a go – believing that change is possible
  • Know what they want to change – having a clear and specific focus
  • Be organised to influence – preparing to get a message across to the outside world
  • Know the political landscape – finding out what’s going on out there
  • Know who to influence – names of people and why you might need to get them on side
  • Link with others to influence – making alliances with others and building capacity for influence
  • Know how to influence – negotiating once you are at the table
  • Have influence – and identify your contribution to change

Training for public sector agencies
We have developed tailored training sessions for public sector officers undertaking large scale consultation activities or conferences, embedding an introduction to facilitation skills in a half day workshop. Our colleagues have found this support invaluable.

In 2008-09 we hope to develop a range of training sessions based on community development principles, which will better prepare and support public sector agencies to engage with communities.

We also have opportunities to buy-in support for partnerships and public sector agencies who wish to consider and develop their openness to community influence, using a framework developed from research in Dudley Borough.
