What does 'community' mean to you? |
|
Dosti is currently convening a working group to develop a Community Engagement Strategy for Dudley. Members of the group, who come from different professional backgrounds, have different perspectives of what a 'community' is. How would you define community, thinking about any communities you feel you belong to, or know of?
I'd like to use contributions to this discussion in the Community Engagement Strategy.

Engaging with the public sector |
|
I am a member of a Community Engagement Working Group in Dudley and we have taken on the task of developing a Community Engagement Strategy for the Borough. We are currently considering the issues and challenges around our reasons for engagement. For the purposes of this discussion I'd like you to take 'engagement' to mean developing and maintaining relationships between communities and organisations (for example the council or police) where decisions are shared and based on mutual and growing understanding.
I'd like to hear from people involved in voluntary organisations, community groups and faith groups about your feelings regarding:
- why you might (or do) engage with public sector agencies
(e.g. Dudley Council, Dudley PCT, West Midlands Police)
- what things hold your organisation or group back from engaging, or wanting to engage?
